Due to classes going on, I wasn't able to fully engross myself in the painting studios in the Main Arts building. I did, however, pop my head in and examine the class, people, and atmosphere for awhile.
A peak into one of the panting studios
Unlike the Sculpture department, I found the painting studios to be a bit more tidy in terms of work being left out and organization of materials. The students appeared to be painting a still life with objects that were white, or covered in white sheets. This made me think about the challenges that painting will hold, and yet, I realized that they would be wonderful learning opportunities.
The people in the studio seemed to be collect with their work; not a lot of talking was going on, and I noticed many people staring at the still life setup and then at their work, and then back again. It was almost a peaceful realm to observe.
Some paintings on the drying rack
Now that I have looked and examined the Painting/Printmaking department, I have more confident thoughts about this being my major.
